The game, as you will play it

No mock-ups: these are screens from the app itself. Every battle can be watched again in 3D, from the ships arriving to the fight on the ground.

Every battle, in 3D Space battle, landing, ground combat: the battle report becomes a film of your attack — or of your defence.
3D view of a base: buildings, spaceport and units standing on the ground
Your base Every building you construct appears on the ground. Pan across it, orbit around it, zoom in.
The map of the universe: player planets, outposts and pirate lairs
The map A 100 × 100 universe: the players, the outposts and the pirate lairs, a few hours of travel apart. Player names blurred.
3D view of a squadron in flight: combat ships and transports between two planets
Your squadrons on the move A squadron in flight is followed in 3D: the planet you left falls behind, the target grows, until you arrive.

What you will build

Nineteen buildings, fourteen units, twenty-one researches and three bombs. Here are a few of the game's pieces, as they appear on your planet.

  • Building

    Vitarium refinery

Extracts vitarium from the ground. The base of any economy: 400 vitarium, 12 hours.

  • Building

    Robot factory

Builds the robots that, in turn, build everything else faster.

  • Ground unit

    Robot

Workforce at the base, main ground defence when the enemy lands.

  • Ship

    Transport ship

5,000 seats for your troops. Without it, no ground attack.

  • Ship

    Frigate

The most powerful ship: 800 attack, 700 defence.

  • Orbital station

    Refain station

Heavy orbital defence, 2,000 attack and 4,000 defence. Never leaves the planet.

  • Planetary defence

    Planetary cannon

Switched on when you choose: destroys 3% of attacking ships per hour of engagement.

  • Weapon of mass destruction

    Antimatter bomb

Levels 3 to 8% of the target's buildings. Only one bomb in flight at a time.

How it works

Your first steps

Five verbs, and a planet that keeps turning while you sleep.

  1. 1 Create Open an account: your planet awaits, with 1,000 vitarium, 50 robots and 72 hours of protection.
  2. 2 Build Refinery, plant, farm — each building costs more than the last, and robots speed everything up.
  3. 3 Research The technology tree unlocks units, ships and orbital stations.
  4. 4 Arm Soldiers, ships, planetary defence: four squadrons and orders to give.
  5. 5 Ally An alliance changes everything: intelligence, defence, and the rankings.
2005 — 2026

The story of Nopilas

A Québec game from 2005, gone in 2008 along with its source code, and rebuilt from the archives.

nopilas.net, 2005 — Wayback Machine archive
  1. 2005

Nopilas opens its doors on nopilas.net — a browser space strategy game with an update on the hour, every hour.

  2. 2006

Version 2 arrives on w2.nopilas.net: new units, alliances, and a forum that never empties.

  3. 2008

The server is switched off. The source code is lost.

  4. 2026

The game is reborn, rebuilt from the Wayback Machine. The blueprints: the full tutorial (15 pages), 54 forum topics, the 2006 changelog, the client JavaScript, six images and two battle reports.

An update on the hour

All production, construction and research move one step at every round hour. No real time: rhythm.

Rebuilt, not reinvented

Every number tagged [source] comes from an archived page. The rest is proposed, and owned as such.

Bahagon, the model

Nopilas was a space counterpart of Bahagon, a Québec game from 2001.
