Have you played OGame? Then you will find your bearings in Nopilas within ten minutes: a planet to build, technologies to research, ships to produce, neighbours to attack or deter, alliances. But Nopilas is not a copy of OGame: it comes from another line, the Québec browser games of 2001 to 2005, and it has kept a rhythm of its own.
What is alike
- A browser space strategy game: nothing to install, playable at the office or on a phone.
- The classic loop: build structures that produce, research technologies that unlock units, manufacture a fleet, then attack, loot or defend.
- Alliances between players, a ranking, detailed battle reports.
- The game keeps running while you sleep: constructions progress, squadrons arrive, battles get resolved.
What is different
| OGame | Nopilas | |
|---|---|---|
| Pace | continuous real time: resources tick by the second, fleets fly by the minute | one update on the hour: everything moves one step at 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, 3:00 pm… |
| Planets | several planets per player, colonies to found | a single planet per player, no colonies |
| Resources | metal, crystal, deuterium and energy | vitarium, energy, food and population, plus robots as workforce |
| Fleets | several fleets in flight at once | one base and four squadrons, trips counted in hours |
| Money | free, with paid options | free, no ads, nothing to buy |
| Origin | Gameforge, Germany, 2002 | Québec, 2005; rebuilt in 2026 from the archives |
OGame is Gameforge's game; Nopilas is not affiliated with it.
Why an update on the hour
In a continuous real-time game, being at the screen at the right second matters: the fleet that lands thirty seconds before yours empties the planet. In Nopilas everything is resolved on the hour, for everyone at the same time. Between two updates you give your orders and close the tab. Ten minutes a day is enough to run a good planet; active players come back more often because they want to, not because they have to.
The hourly update also changes how you attack: a trip is counted in whole hours, the history shows your neighbours' movements, and a squadron in flight can be intercepted. Less stopwatch, more chess.
If you come from OGame
- Everything starts with population. Your inhabitants and robots are your workforce: a construction with nobody on it does not progress. The Population page is your first reflex, not your last.
- Inhabitants eat. Keep one hydroponic farm ahead, and a silo once production outgrows storage.
- “Refineries to build robots to build refineries.” That is the 2005 opening, and it still holds: see Your first 48 hours.
- 72 hours of protection when you sign up: nobody can attack you for three days. Build.
Ready? Create your planet: it is free, and there is nothing to buy afterwards.
